Titanic Necklace: Original and Reproductions

Titanic Necklace Original and Reproductions

The Titanic necklace, which is also known as the Heart of the Ocean, actually refers to the fictional blue diamond prominently featured in the movie Titanic. According to the story in the film, the diamond was initially owned by Louis XVI and later cut into a heart shape following the outbreak of French Revolution. The diamond was then purchased by Caledon Hockley (played by Billy Zane) for his fianc’e Rose Bukater (played by Kate Winslet).

Asprey & Garrard, the London-based jewelers, created this Edwardian style Titanic necklace using cubic zirconia that was set in white gold. The necklace was later used as a prop in Titanic. Following the success of the film, the jewelers were commissioned to make the authentic necklace with the original design of Heart of the Ocean to use. This later resulted in a platinum set with 171-carat Ceylon sapphire in heart shape and 103 diamonds surrounding it.
